Welcome to the Orcas Island cabin. It’s a woodsy, charming getaway located in Washington’s gorgeous San Juan Islands.
The gable-roofed structure designed by David Vandervort has 350-square-feet of living space downstairs and a 150-square-foot loft. The cabin features beautiful, refined woodwork and well thought out details. It sits on a sunny bluff surrounded by towering cedars.
“By carefully siting the structure, existing vegetation was retained, and the cabin was nestled into the land,” David Vandervort says on his website.
A view from inside the cabin shows the entryway, seating area, dining room, and stairs leading up to the loft. The exposed beams give the cabin its rustic feel.
The dining area is situated next to a large window that lets the natural light flow into the room.
The modern kitchen is quaint, but it has all of the luxuries you could ever need. A small fridge was built into the cabinets to maximize space.
Standing in the center of the living space, you can turn and look into the bathroom’s entryway with a gorgeous sink and sophisticated tile work.
A pocket door separates the bathroom from the living space. Pocket doors are a great way to save space in small square-footage areas.
Outside, there is a peaceful seating area surrounded by nature and wildlife on the eastern sound of Orcas Island.
“French doors lead out to a flagstone patio integrated into the landscape with a meandering edge. The same stone was used for a durable floor covering at the entrances and beneath the woodstove.”
The small, rustic hideaway offers its occupants a quiet and relaxing retreat in a place that feels secluded from the world.
