What Makes a Great Towel?

For my testing, I wanted to find a towel that did a few things really well.
- Plush and Comfortable
- Fast Drying
- High-Quality Materials
First, I want my towels to be plush. This is a visual thing, but it’s also a tactile one. The feeling of a plush towel is hard to beat. Most of the time, a plush towel is made using cotton or polyester. I generally prefer natural fibers or a blend since they are more sustainable, longer lasting, and usually better at moisture-wicking.
Second, I want a luxury bath towel to be fast-drying. When you use a plush towel, there is always the risk that it won’t dry. The way that great towels get around this is by using the right combination of materials (one to suck up moisture and another to wick it away). Another method is to use something called “zero-twist cotton.” Zero-twist cotton means the cotton yarns are woven into loops, and it is naturally stronger and finer than regular cotton. It’s also more absorbent than other manufacturing processes. Zero-twist cotton isn’t a non-negotiable for me, but I think the resulting towel is worlds apart from other types.
Finally, a high-quality towel should use high-quality materials. The most common material for towels is either cotton or microfiber, although cotton is the industry standard. 100% cotton towels are nice, but there is a trade-off since blends are usually a little more durable and have specialty fibers that help with softness, absorption, and quick-drying capabilities.
Our Overall Favorite:

In my weeks of testing, the Dosaze Cloudsoft Quickdry Towels earned their spot as the best of the bunch. I was a little nervous since Dosaze is mostly known for its bedding. My nervousness, thankfully, wasn’t needed. They’re not just good—they’re genuinely outstanding. What sets them apart, first and foremost, is their patented zero-twist technology. Plenty of brands talk about fast absorption, but these towels actually deliver. After a shower, I found that water practically vanished on contact, cutting down on that damp-and-cold feeling you often get from slower-drying towels.

Beyond their impressive absorbency, the material blend here is thoughtfully designed. The towels are crafted from a mix of 40% cotton, 12% polyamide, and 48% polyester. While you might not think much about the material breakdown, this combination strikes a sweet spot between comfort, durability, and that all-important quick drying. They’re incredibly plush—seriously, it’s like wrapping up in a cloud—but they also manage to dry faster than anything else I tried. I’ve tested my fair share of towels, and I can safely say these are the fastest-drying ones I’ve ever used.
Another subtle benefit is that these towels are anti-microbial, which means they stay fresher for longer. In my experience, the Dosaze towels maintained that crisp, clean feeling day after day. And when it comes to sheer capability, their ability to absorb up to eight times their weight in water is no joke—it’s something you notice immediately in practice.
All in all, the Dosaze Cloudsoft Quickdry Towels are a perfect blend of plushness, performance, and long-lasting quality. They tick all the boxes I look for in a luxury bath towel, making them my top choice.

The Company Store Company Cotton Turkish Towels

Review:
- Fast Drying: 8
- Plush Comfort: 8
- Material Quality: 8
- Return policy / warranty: 9
- Value: 8
The Company Store has a long history of offering dependable home textiles, and their Turkish towels represent that reliable craftsmanship. Made from long-staple Turkish cotton, these towels strike a nice balance between fluffiness and durability. They come in an impressive range of colors and they were some of the standout towels I tried over the course of this review.
I have no issue placing The Company Store towels at number #2 on my list for a few reasons. First, they are really soft and plush. Almost as plush as the Dosaze and Cozy Earth towels. On top of that, they are only around $40-$50 for a towel, but the brand is competing against the more luxury contenders on the list (specifically Cozy Earth). I think that if you are deciding between Cozy Earth and The Company Store, the latter gets you 90% of the way there for quite a bit less. Where The Company Store falls behind is in its innovation since it isn’t particularly fast drying, doesn’t have the dual-loop structure, and doesn’t use high-performance material blends like Dosaze.
Cozy Earth Premium Plush Bath Sheets

Review:
- Fast Drying: 7
- Plush Comfort: 10
- Material Quality: 10
- Return policy / warranty: 9
- Value: 5
Cozy Earth has been making quite the splash over the past few years. They’ve done a lot of influencer marketing, have some great products, and overall are a big player in the bed and bath space. I’ve reviewed a few of their products over the years, and there is one thing that this brand is always pushing: luxury. When you feel the Cozy Earth towels, it’s clear that they are a cut above many on the list. A consistent element that CE is always going to thread in (quite literally) their products is bamboo. These towels are the only ones on my list that are 100% bamboo viscose, which is generally regarded as a softer, decent-quality synthetic material. It isn’t made with bamboo in the way that cotton is literally taken and processed for yarn, but pulped up, put through a chemical bath, and then extruded through tiny holes to make synthetic-like threads which are then woven into things like towels.
Are these towels soft? Absolutely. Are they really, really nice? Yes! Would I ever buy them for my house? No. I would not. Despite being great, these towels are just plain EXPENSIVE. It cost me $125 for a set of two towels, nothing extra. Not even a handtowel set or anything. And with how often towels get stained or need to be replaced, the value just really isn’t here. If you want to spend a few hundred dollars furnishing your bathroom with the most expensive luxury towels, go for it. But truthfully, some of the other options on the list are 99% there in regards to how plush these are and have even better drying performance (like Dosaze).
Land’s End Supima Cotton Bath Towel

Review:
- Fast Drying: 7
- Plush Comfort: 9
- Material Quality: 10
- Return policy / warranty: 9
- Value: 8
Land’s End leans into tried-and-true quality with their Supima Cotton Bath Towels. Supima cotton is known for its extra-long fibers, ensuring these towels are softer and more durable than standard cotton options. They might not have the flashiest marketing or the trendiest blends, but if you appreciate classic craftsmanship, reliability, and a towel that will hold up for the long haul, Land’s End is a smart choice.
Truthfully, I think the Supima cotton that was used to make these towels is fantastic. They were easily among my favorite towels and on top of that, they are relatively affordable as far as luxury towels go. I wouldn’t feel bad about purchasing these towels, although the only issue is that while they are extremely soft, they aren’t especially plush.
Boll & Branch Plush Bath Towel Set

Review:
- Fast Drying: 7
- Plush Comfort: 7
- Material Quality: 8
- Return policy / warranty: 6
- Value: 7
Boll & Branch is a well-regarded brand in the luxury goods space, and their Plush Bath Towel Set is no exception. Made from the highest quality organic cotton, these towels feel dense, velvety, and incredibly substantial. The low-twist yarns boost absorbency, while the certified organic materials reflect the brand’s commitment to sustainability. There’s a noticeable level of craftsmanship here—just the right mix of softness, weight, and absorbency—that makes them feel elevated and long-lasting.
My main issues with the brand is that they were on the lower side of plush softness when compared to some of the other brands. Dosaze, The Company Store, and Cozy Earth were all much softer than Boll & Branch and if I had all four hanging up after I got out of a hot shower, I wouldn’t reach for them. I just want something that is a little more cozy than what they offer. They aren’t bad towels, but compared to the others, they don’t feel unique or special.
Brooklinen Super Plush Towels

Review:
- Fast Drying: 8
- Plush Comfort: 6
- Material Quality: 6
- Return policy / warranty: 8
- Value: 6
Frankly, Brooklinen’s Super Plush Towels were a little disappointing for me. Using 100% Turkish cotton at an impressively high GSM (grams per square meter), I had some high hopes for this brand. Generally, I like their products and have reviewed their sheets before (they were some of my favorites!). That being said, when I got these, the first thing I noticed was that the name felt a little misleading. They call them “super plush,” but I didn’t get that from these towels at all. The towels themselves are a bit on the pricier side as well, so I was really hoping for a spa-like experience here.
It’s possible that I just ordered the wrong type of towel from them, and I’d be willing to try some others, but you can pretty much see in the photo above that they aren’t even visually as plush as the others on the list.
Casaluna (Target) Waffle Towels

Review:
- Fast Drying: 6
- Plush Comfort: 6
- Material Quality: 7
- Return policy / warranty: 9
- Value: 6
Let me first say that I like Target. With that in mind, I wasn’t particularly fond of these types of towels. I wanted to try to include an outlier in the review that was affordable and innovative at the same time, and the Casaluna Waffle Towels were my attempted choice. Unfortunately, they just weren’t my favorite. First, I don’t really love the waffle design. A few brands out there have this as an option, but when compared to a true luxury plush towel, it just doesn’t really compete. I think the looped fibers and fuzzy feel of a more traditional plush towel feel softer and work better than these. I DO think that the waffle texture can be used to add some really nice contrast in a bathroom that needs it, but I wouldn’t buy these towels for their performance or comfort.
The main redeeming feature of Casaluna is that they are among the least expensive of all the options that I tried. If you don’t love them, at least you didn’t spend close to $80 on a towel like you would with Cozy Earth. I know that Target also has a more traditional towel, so I may try to use that one for a future review and see how it compares!
